Appalachian Power customers with electric heat generally use more than the average amount of electricity each month, while customers without electric heat use less. The chart shows examples of what a typical residential customer using 1,000 and 2,000 kWh/month would pay.

Energy Efficiency Programs in West Virginia offer residential customers an online energy check-up, a FREE home energy assessment, discounts on LED lighting, rebates on appliances and home improvements, and low-income weatherization assistance. The programs help customers save money on their energy costs and help reduce the overall energy demand for the company.
An effective way to manage rising energy costs is to become a knowledgeable consumer and use energy wisely. Appalachian Power customers are urged to visit www.takechargewv.com to learn about energy saving ideas. Energy efficiency measures can be used to offset rising prices for electricity.
This rate schedule is available to customers of Appalachian Power Company-West Virginia, which is registered to do business in West Virginia as American Electric Power.
These rates became effective March 6, 2019 and were most recently updated on December 19, 2023.
In December 2021, Appalachian Power presented the West Virginia Public Service Commission with a proposed program that would provide certain customers with cost savings from reduced energy usage during periods of high energy market prices. The Voluntary Curtailment Service program (VCS Tariff) is available to Appalachian Power’s West Virginia and Wheeling Power customers who take service under rate schedules LCP or IP or under a special contract and have a minimum 1,000 kilowatts of curtailable demand.
