Powering Our Future

We are proactively planning to ensure the communities we serve continue to have safe, reliable and affordable electricity for years to come. Through our West Virginia Integrated Resource Plans (IRPs) and Virginia Clean Economy Act (VCEA) planning efforts, we're evaluating how best to meet changing energy needs while balancing affordability, reliability and sustainability.

To meet growing energy demand, we’re planning for a diverse portfolio of resources, including coal, gas, nuclear and renewables, while exploring emerging technologies and opportunities that support economic growth and customer needs.

While we develop analyses and recommendations, any significant generation investment must be reviewed and approved by state regulators to ensure it aligns with policy objectives, customer interests, reliability requirements and cost considerations.

Planning Reliable, Affordable Electricity

Both planning efforts help shape our energy future, and together, they help us make informed decisions about investments, resource development and energy strategies that deliver value for customers.

Our IRP and VCEA filings work to balance future energy needs while supporting economic growth and delivering value for customers.

Every planning decision is guided by the same objective: providing safe, reliable and affordable electricity while supporting the growing needs of the customers and communities we serve.

Integrated Resource Plans (IRPs)

Our IRPs provide a long-term roadmap for how we will meet customer energy needs while maintaining reliable service and managing costs. The plans evaluate a variety of possible future scenarios, including changes in electricity demand, fuel prices, regulations and emerging technologies. By examining multiple pathways, we can identify strategies that help ensure customers continue to receive dependable power at a reasonable cost.

Virginia Clean Economy Act (VCEA)

The VCEA establishes renewable energy and energy storage requirements for Virginia utilities and outlines a path toward 100% clean energy by 2050. To support these requirements, we file an annual Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS) Plan that identifies resources and strategies that can help meet Virginia's clean energy goals while maintaining reliability and managing customer costs.
