Situation
Electric service has been restored to more than 82,000 customers who lost service after severe storms, followed by frequent wind gusts, struck the Appalachian region beginning Friday. Thousands of line and tree clearing personnel continue to make repairs to restore service to the remaining 3,100 customers without power.
Outages & Damage
Approximately 1,100 customers remain without power in Virginia and 2,800 in West Virginia, with repairs needed at 138 locations across the two states.
Assessment began early Friday, with field personnel finding hundreds of spans of downed wire, nearly 50 broken or damaged poles and just under 20 transformers needing replaced.
Storm Response Efforts
Although the peak number of outages reached 38,000 early Saturday following severe storms Friday into early morning Saturday, a subsequent round of high winds Saturday afternoon caused new damage, resulting in additional power outages for customers. This situation highlights a common challenge during severe weather events, where continued unstable weather conditions can leave restored systems vulnerable to further impacts.
Weather Conditions
Weather remains favorable for power restoration this evening.
Estimated Times of Restoration (ETRs)
Most customers currently without electric service due to storm damage should have power restored by tonight.
