Amanda Cox is Vice President of External Affairs for Appalachian Power Company (APCo), responsible for oversight and implementation of local and county governmental affairs, community relations and assisting with local and regional economic development in Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia. She serves as a registered lobbyist in Virginia and participates in the Commonwealth's General Assembly sessions in Richmond.
Cox began her career with APCo in 2017 as an External Affairs Manager in Virginia. In 2023, she was promoted to Regional External Affairs Manager, where she led community relations and government affairs efforts across the company. Most recently, she served as Director of Government Affairs, overseeing relationships with key external stakeholders, including legislators and key organizations.
Prior to joining APCo, Cox served as the President & CEO of the Martinsville-Henry County Chamber of Commerce and its Partnership for Economic Growth, where she positioned the Chamber to become the lead entity for small business development, leveraged workforce partnerships to increase the Chamber's capacity to deliver business services and secured a 5-Star rating with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce for the first time in the organization's history.
Cox currently serves on multiple state, regional and local boards, including the Virginia Tobacco Commission, Virginia's Rural Center Board and the Southwest Virginia Energy Research & Development Authority. She has a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Ferrum College and a Master of Business Administration from Radford University.
