Recently, Appalachian Power Company (APCo) signed the White House Ratepayer Protection Pledge, announced by President Trump, reinforcing our commitment to put customers first. As our region grows and new large energy users connect to the electric system, we believe the costs needed to serve that growth should be paid by the customers creating that demand, not by existing customers.  

As always, our focus is on providing safe, reliable power while working every day to keep rates as reasonable as possible. Customers depend on electricity to power their homes, businesses and daily lives, and they deserve a fair approach to growth that protects them from unnecessary costs.

New businesses and industries can bring jobs, investment and opportunity to our communities. They can also require new energy infrastructure. We believe large customers should pay the costs required to serve them, which helps protect existing residential and business customers from paying more than their fair share. That is why we have pushed to put tariffs in place for large energy users.

When growth is managed responsibly, it can benefit everyone. By making sure new large energy users cover the costs associated with serving them, existing customers are better protected and can share in the long-term benefits of a stronger, more reliable electric system.
