CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Appalachian Power representatives and the utility’s affiliate, AEP West Virginia Transmission Co., Inc., plan upgrades to the electric transmission system serving customers in Kanawha, Lincoln and Boone counties.
The Alum Creek-Madison Transmission Line Rebuild Project involves rebuilding approximately 20 miles of transmission line in or near the existing right-of-way. The improvements strengthen the transmission system by replacing towers from the 1920s with modern steel poles.
Upgrades begin at a transmission tower near Bellingham Drive in St. Albans and continue south through Kanawha, Lincoln and Boone counties. The rebuild ends at a substation along Hopkins Road and Little Coal River in Danville.
“The Alum Creek-Madison transmission line dates back 100 years,” said George Porter, Appalachian Power spokesperson. “The upgrades use modern equipment, creating a stronger transmission system to provide continued reliability for area customers.”
Appalachian Power representatives invite community members and landowners in the project area to learn more at an upcoming open house. The public event takes place on Thursday, March 19, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Alum Creek Elementary School, located at 4540 Brounland Road in Charleston.
The event does not include a formal presentation, so attendees can arrive at any time to review maps and talk with project representatives.
