Tin Ridge facility marks major economic win for southern Virginia

October 21, 2025

Just months after playing a significant role in helping to bring Google to the Roanoke region, Appalachian Power’s Economic Development team helped score yet another win for the Commonwealth.

In September 2025, Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin announced that Nathan Trotter would invest approximately $65 million to construct Tin Ridge, a first-of-its-kind metal production and processing facility in Henry County.

In a statement released by the Office of the Governor, Nathan Trotter, the leading supplier and recycler of tin and tin alloy products in North America, selected a strategic 44-acre site north of Martinsville for the 115,000-square-foot tin processing facility. At full capacity, Tin Ridge is expected to create an estimated 118 jobs in the Commonwealth.

“Nathan Trotter’s historic investment in Henry County only strengthens our national defense supply chain while also creating new, high-quality jobs and career opportunities in advanced manufacturing for the people of Southern Virginia,” Youngkin said in the September announcement.

The new tin facility will be located at Tract 4 of the Patriot Centre Industrial Park. The location was enticing to Nathan Trotter representatives in part because of its proximity to key ports, suppliers and electric infrastructure assets, including a nearby APCo electric substation.

“It’s just an exciting time for our region and the state of Virginia,” said Whitney Czelusniak, APCo’s economic development manager for Virginia, who worked closely with partnering organizations to help bring Nathan Trotter to Henry County. “It’s so gratifying to know that we played a part in helping to foster growth and innovation in our communities.”

Czelusniak said that having dependable, affordable electric options already in place is a key driver for companies looking to grow or expand their businesses in the region, and the Nathan Trotter facility was no exception.

“Having ready-to-go electric service at industrial sites like Patriot Centre not only enhances the competitive edge for the park, but significantly reduces the time and investment required for a new business to establish itself,” Czelusniak said. “This process ensures that companies can focus on innovation and growth from day one, making the region an attractive destination for industry.”
