Tennessee Business Program Offerings

Sign up to reduce energy demand during high load periods or emergencies and receive a monthly payment.

By contracting to reduce usage during periods of high demand, Tennessee business owners can help ensure a reliable supply of power and help reduce Appalachian Power's need to purchase power and build new power plants. Oftentimes, necessary reductions can be accomplished if customers curtail their use of nonessential equipment, such as lighting or air conditioning, which allows businesses to continue their normal business operations. Customers can decide the amount of usage to enroll in the programs.

Under the PSDR program, customers will be paid for agreeing to reduce usage up to a maximum of 10 times for 6 consecutive hours or less during the months of December through March only. Customers are given as much notice as possible but will not be given less than 90 minutes notice that usage should be reduced.

The PSEDR program is a year-round program, under which customers will be paid for agreeing to reduce usage a maximum of 20 times of 6 consecutive hours or less over the course of a year. Customers are given as much notice as possible but will not be given less than 90 minutes notice that usage should be reduced. Because of the higher number of possible curtailments, customers will be paid a higher amount than they would under the PSDR program.
