Virginia Green Pricing
In Virginia, customers have the opportunity to purchase blocks of green energy.
Each block is equivalent to 100 kilowatt-hours of renewable electricity.
With this Green Pricing Option, you encourage the generation of renewable energy
through the purchase of Renewable Energy Certificates,
or RECs. RECs are created whenever a renewable energy generator makes power from
renewable resources. By purchasing these Renewable Energy Certificates, you encourage
and help sustain renewable power.
Residential customers may elect to purchase a minimum of
at a cost of
for each block. For example, if a customer purchases two blocks of green energy,
that customer's bill would increase by
each month. Virginia customers may also elect to purchase all of their power using
the green pricing option.
The typical residential customer uses an average of 1,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity
a month (check your usage here), so purchasing 10
blocks of green energy would match that usage.
Each green energy block will add $1.50 to your bill each month, as long as you participate
in the program. The cost to purchase green energy blocks is in addition to your
regular monthly electric bill, and will be reflected as a separate line item on
Participating in Appalachian Power's green pricing option affords
customers the opportunity to make a positive environmental impact in the region
by helping to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, expand America's renewable energy
resources and provide support for the creation of green jobs nationwide.
