Five Tips To Cut Energy Costs

HomeSmartYou don’t have to do a lot to save a lot. Use these handy tips to lower your energy costs:

  1. Uncover Savings With A HomeSMART Energy Assessment*
An energy specialist will come and help you identify areas in your home that may be wasting energy. The specialist may also install simple energy efficient improvements at no cost to you, such as low-flow showerheads, energy-efficient light bulbs, smart strip power bars, and more! Plus, you'll get a prioritized list of suggested energy-saving solutions along with information about substantial rebates from Appalachian Power — again, all at no cost to you.
    • Free program
    • Long-term energy savings
    • Earn up to $900** in rebates after your free assessment

  2. Unplug What You Aren’t Using
Home electronics continue to pull a great deal of electricity if they’re plugged in when you aren’t using them. Save energy by utilizing a power strip you can shut off when chargers, appliances and electronics aren’t in use.
  3. Install Compact Fluorescent Bulbs (CFL)
CFL bulbs last much longer than incandescents. Best of all, they save energy — swapping five incandescent bulbs with ENERGY STAR® CFLs can save you about $60 a year.
  4. Use Appliances Wisely
Maximize efficiency by washing full loads of laundry in cold water, and be sure to clean your dryer’s lint filter after each use. For dishwashers, wash full loads and use a shorter cycle if one is available. Dry dishes using the “air dry” setting.
  5. Conserve Water Heat
Don’t lose money by heating water and then letting it cool. Adding an insulation blanket to your water heater and insulation on your hot water pipes is a fast, easy way to increase energy efficiency.

Don’t Wait! The sooner you put these tips into action, the sooner you’ll start saving money. Act now to take advantage of the free HomeSMART Energy Assessment.

**The HomeSMART Energy Assessment Program offers rebates for the installation of energy-saving measures when they are recommended by a program-approved energy specialist. Only customers with electrically heated homes qualify for rebates. Rebates must be completed by a participating contractor. The rebate budget is limited and rebates will be paid for all eligible and qualifying installed measures, until such time as the program ends or the rebate budget is exhausted.

*To qualify you must own your home or get approval from the homeowner. Condos, apartments, and commercial buildings do not qualify.
