APPALACHIAN POWER ANNOUNCES
VIRGINIA CUSTOMER SERVICES AND MARKETING LEADERS

ROANOKE, Va., January 03, 2005  – Appalachian Power recently named two Appalachian Power veterans to key positions in the company’s marketing and customer services operations in Virginia. David Nance has been named manager, customer services and marketing – Virginia, and Bill Valley has been named manager, meter revenue operations – Virginia.
 
“We are fortunate to have experience and leadership in both the customer services and marketing and the meter revenue operations groups in our Virginia territory,” said Wayne Pugh, Appalachian’s director of customer services and marketing.
 
Nance joined the company in 1976 as an electrical engineer. He is a graduate of the University of Virginia with a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, and he also is a graduate of AEP’s Management Development Program through Ohio State University.
 
Valley began working for Appalachian in 1964 as a temporary employee before joining the company full-time as an electrical engineer in 1969. He earned a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Virginia Tech.
 
Appalachian Power provides electricity to 1 million customers in Virginia, West Virginia and Tennessee.  It is a unit of American Electric Power, the nation’s largest electricity generator.  AEP owns more than 36,000 megawatts of generating capacity and is one of the nation’s largest electric utilities, with more than 5 million customers in 11 states.
