Sunscape Project
Appalachian Power proposes construction of approximately 1.4 miles of new 138 kilovolt (kV) electric transmission line and a new electric substation to meet growing demands for electricity in parts of the City of Roanoke and Roanoke County. The company took public comments on the proposals from March until May before identifying a preferred line route, an alternative line route, and a substation site. The company is now seeking approval from the Virginia State Corporation Commission to construct the $11 million project.

The line will be constructed using single-pole steel structures (see examples of the types of constructions planned for the project).

Appalachian Power plans to have the project in service in June 2010.
