Lake Forest Project
Appalachian Power plans to construct approximately three miles of 138-kilovolt (kV) transmission line and a new electric substation near a growing load center in southern Botetourt County. The facilities are needed to improve reliability in the area and meet growing electric demands in southern Botetourt County and eastern Roanoke County.

Appalachian Power introduced this project in August. After taking public comment on nearly 40 line segments and multiple potential substation sites, the company identified the least impacting route and substation site. The company is now seeking approval from the Virginia State Corporation Commission to construct the project.

The line will be constructed using single-pole steel structures (see examples of the types of construction planned for the project)

Appalachian plans to have the project in-service in June 2009. The total project is estimated to cost about $8 million.
