About the Wetlands of Winfield
The Wetlands of Winfield is an environmental educational facility. Appalachian Power and Toyota Motor Manufacturing of West Virginia partnered to build the demonstration wetlands project. The facility is part of a 22-acre high-quality wetlands located in Putnam County, West Virginia, on a 65-acre tract next to the Kanawha River between the John Amos Power Plant and Winfield.
The facility is home to nearly a half-mile of nature trails and boardwalk observation sites designed to allow primarily student groups to walk through and observe the wetlands without damaging them. A stage area gives educators a place to gather their students for discussion. A centrally-located kiosk and signs along the trails highlight important aspects of the wetlands.
