Just a few extra dollars a month can help a neighbor in need stay warm this winter. Appalachian Power’s Neighbor to Neighbor program lets customers donate funds to help pay electric heating bills for low-income customers in the company’s Virginia, West Virginia and Tennessee service territory. Appalachian Power’s Neighbor-to-Neighbor Program is conducted each year in cooperation with human service agencies in West Virginia, Virginia and Tennessee. Customers and company shareholders have contributed nearly $5 million toward the program since it started in 1983. Contributing is easy. Customers who wish to contribute should make their checks payable to “Appalachian Power, Neighbor-to-Neighbor Program” and send them to Appalachian Power at the appropriate address below. If you already pay your bill by mail, you can write one check and add the contribution amount to your check. Contributions are tax deductible and those making donations will receive a receipt.
The eligibility of recipients is determined and funds are distributed in West Virginia by the Department of Health and Human Resources; in Virginia by the Department of Social Services, and in Tennessee by the Upper East Tennessee Human Development Agency. All funds contributed to the program go directly to help those in need, with administrative costs borne by Appalachian and the outside agency.
