Huntington Court-Roanoke Transmission Reinforcement Project
Appalachian Power identified a need to connect two existing electric substations in Roanoke as part of an electric system upgrade in the Roanoke Valley. The Huntington Court-Roanoke Transmission Reinforcement Project involves the construction of approximately six miles of 138 kilovolt (kV) transmission line to connect existing substations in northeast and southeast Roanoke.  The project is needed to reinforce the regional electric supply and to ensure compliance with North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) standards. Following several weeks of public input the company identified a preferred and alternate route for the project. A request to construct the project is currently before the Virginia State Corporation Commission.
